iPhone SE: What You Need to Know

If you haven’t heard already Apple made a few big product announcements this week. Apple has reached a large milestone, reaching 1 billion active devices around the world; they’ve lowered prices and are loading up on features.

Apple will be creating a smaller, cheaper iPhone with a four-inch display. As it turns out people are still buying the 4-inch iPhone, reaching 30 million purchases in 2015. That’s nearly 8 percent of the 232 million phones sold by Apple worldwide last year. Large smartphones have been trending for nearly half a decade. There’s no denying the success of the iPhone 6 and 6s, but Apple is looking to captivate first time iPhone owners and small screen lovers with the iPhone SE.

Apple has added a speedier 64-bit A9 processor, M9 motion coprocessor, a 12-megapixel camera with 4K and live photo capabilities, and Touch ID for Apple Pay. The iPhone SE has literally double the speed of the iPhone 5s and parallels the iPhone 6s. The M9 motion processor is on all the time, meaning users can always track their fitness and better yet, the “Hey Siri” feature. Just like that, we have the iPhone SE, which is basically an iPhone 6s squeezed into a smaller body.

The SE will be great for campus stores and college students. With a lower price point then other iPhones students will be able to open up their wallets to a premium phone without compromising their budgets. The 4-inch iPhone is the most affordable one yet, expect students to splurge on premium phone accessories they previously were unable to.

Pre-orders begin Thursday, March 24 and the phone will be in the hands of the consumer on March 31st. Four available colors are available for the SE model: Gold, Space Gray, Silver and Rose Gold. The iPhone SE will start at $399.
