How Retail is Evolving and What to Expect in 2021

Retail has been evolving over the years but due to COVID-19, some trends have evolved quicker than predicted. Here are some trends that we’ll continue to see in 2021.

Social Commerce

With shopping features being added to social platforms, consumers have an even more seamless way to shop online. In 2020, we saw a partnership between TikTok and Shopify, the expansion of Snapchat’s Native Store for brands, and the release of Facebook Shops. Sellers can create an online store through social platforms and consumers can buy right from the social media app without being redirected to a third-party website. Influencer Marketing

Consumers aren’t interested in carefully constructed captions, paid marketing ads, and highly edited photos. Instead they are interested in raw authentic marketing through influencers. By showcasing authentic influencer marketing, your store will be more credible. The most popular medium for influencer marketing is video since it allows consumers to see products in action.

AR Shopping Experiences

While AR isn’t new to retail, it certainly isn’t going away. With the rise of digital shopping and consumers being hesitant to shop in stores, AR is the best way to see and interact with products. If you’re a small store, you might feel AR is too hard to implement, or not know where to start. Shopify AR is an easy-to-use toolkit to help small businesses implement AR.

Same-Day Delivery

Since many retailers offer two-day or less shipping, consumers have high expectations on shipping times. Consumers are more likely shop retailers that offer next-day and same-day shipping. Consumers want instant gratification and expect their orders ASAP. A PwC report says 88% of consumers are willing to pay for same-day or faster delivery.
