The National Retail Federation 2015 back-to-school spending survey indicates families will be trimming back their purchases compared to 2014. Families and students will be evaluating what they really need when heading back to school in order to save. College shoppers and their families will spend an average of $899.18—this is slightly down from last year’s $916.48. However, in an effort to personalize their less-than-appealing student housings, the survey reports trendy dorm-furnishing spending is up by a significant 30%.
